The Earth Defenders are a faction included in "Godzilla: Unleashed" consisting of major monsters who intend to protect the planet Earth from outside forces such as aliens or crystals but hold no collective affinity for humanity. Many of them draw their power from natural elements, such as earth, air, wind and fire.

Now largely confined to Monster Island, they have been noted by both the Global Defense Force and the Vortaak for their ability to work together as a team against common foes, though the former continue to mistrust them.

Trivia

• They are the largest faction in every version of the game, consisting of six monsters in the PS2 edition and nine monsters in the main release. The nine-monster bracket for Story Mode was designed around this number, though ultimately only seven monsters were selectable.
  • Godzilla 1954 cannot be selected for story in either version of the game, and Godzilla 1990's can only be selected in the PS2 version.
• Six of the creatures included in the Earth Defenders faction were among those who participated in the battle against King Ghidorah in the 1968 film Destroy All Monsters.
