King Ghidorah is a major playable monster in the Atari Godzilla Trilogy, appearing in all three games. He is portrayed as a significant member of the Aliens faction, and is seen as one of Vorticias' favorite monsters in the cutscenes for the later installments, and is a boss in the Earth Defenders' storyline.

The character's design has shared elements from all incarnations of the character prior to 2018, but in the first two games and Unleashed's PS2 version, he resembles the version from the 1991 film, Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. The new model created for the third game includes new elements from the 2001 film Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack.

Biography[]

If Gigan is the hammer of the Vortaak invasion forces, then Ghidorah is the anvil. Ghidorah is the most physically powerful monster in the universe, and blends immense size, incredible strength and near invulnerability into a unified engine of monstrous destruction. The Vortaak often hesitate to deploy King Ghidorah at all, lest he demolish their enemies and leave nothing to subjugate. Ghidorah is at home in the vacuum of space, and travels between planets under his own power. King Ghidorah's wings allow him to fly in Earth's atmosphere, though his great mass hinders his aerial mobility. He naturally generates intense electrical energy that he unleashes as a powerful Triple Gravity Beam from his three heads. Despite all of this, King Ghidorah's greatest asset is his incredible ability to withstand damage - all known forms of attack splinter against his thick golden scales.

    • King Ghidorah can hover in the air like most airborne monsters. (Fire Rodan and Varan are good examples) Doing this ability can evade to be hit by ground attacks (although monsters do attack while mid-air) and also fire Gravity Beams mid-air to avoid any sustained damage by ground attacks.

  • Flick the Wiimote up and the Nunchuk foward, then press A. (doesnt require energy)
    • King Ghidorahs grapple is to grab an enemy by using his heads before pinning them down, by pressing A, King Ghidorah crushes his opponents to the ground, dealing a massive amount of damage after being "thrown away".

Trivia[]

  • Though he is affiliated with aliens across all three games, the biography for "Godzilla: Save the Earth" references his origin from the 1991 film Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah in which he is created by Futurians by mutating three genetically-modified "Dorat" creatures.
